Unpacking Geodes: Engaging Early Readers And Building Lasting Knowledge

What is included in a set of Geodes? Unpack a box of these unique books and learn how your students will build knowledge and vocabulary, practice their phonics and decoding skills, and explore other subjects such as art, world cultures, science, and more.

Geodes, Wit & Wisdom®, and Explicit Phonics Instruction

Geodes are completely versatile and can be paired with any explicit, systematic foundational skills program. Geodes also provide a beautiful bridge between the knowledge-building modules of Wit & Wisdom and the foundational skills progression in best-in-class phonics and foundational skills programs like Really Great Reading®, Fundations®, 95 Phonics Core Program®, UFLI Foundations, and SIPPS®.

Bringing the Science of Reading to Your Classroom

Geodes are intentionally designed to pair with an explicit, systematic foundational skills program to help students practice their phonics and decoding skills while building enduring content and vocabulary knowledge.

Learn how Geodes, a foundational skills program, and Wit & Wisdom, our comprehensive K–8 English language arts curriculum, work seamlessly together to support evidence-based literacy instruction.

Small-Group Instruction With Geodes

Geodes are designed to be used flexibly for whole-group instruction, during small-group instruction or center time, and at home with the My Geodes® take-home books in print and digital format. Learn more about how Geodes can be used during small-group instruction to help students overcome the hurdles of accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.

Geodes Professional Development

Created by the team of teacher–writers behind Wit & Wisdom and Geodes, our in-person and virtual PD sessions support teachers and leaders. These sessions ensure strong initial implementation as well as sustained success.

Funding Your Geodes Library

Did you know that end-of-year budgets or federal grant and stimulus dollars can be used to provide Geodes libraries to classrooms? Review our funding resources page and let's work together to maximize available funds to help your students build knowledge and hone in on their phonics skills.

Enhanced Supports for Multilingual Students and Families

Each Geodes book extends learning through a More section that gives students an opportunity to build additional knowledge and vocabulary. To support a shared experience with family, the More section in My Geodes, take-home versions of the titles, are in both English and Spanish.

New Digital Experience With My Geodes

Students can access Geodes from anywhere with the new My Geodes digital experience. This add-on service gives students unlimited access to the vibrant journey of reading as they practice their skills independently and build enduring knowledge. This experience is designed to not only empower students to read Geodes independently during school but to also bring the journey home with them.
