Students’ social and emotional well-being is intimately connected to their academic success. When students feel a sense of belonging and significance in their classroom and school environments, they have more autonomy over their learning. Research has demonstrated that students succeed when their emotional needs are met and struggle when these needs are not met.

So how does PhD Science® integrate social-emotional learning with science instruction?  In this month's implementation tip, you’ll hear from Tori Soileau, regional director of implementation support, who’ll discuss the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) in science and walk you through the  SEL competencies identified by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. You'll gain an understanding of the SEL competencies and see where these competencies are embedded in the curriculum.
