The California Mathematics Framework

Bringing the California Framework to Life

 

Where the California Math Standards focused on what students should know, the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools was established because the “how and the why” of math learning are as important as what students are learning.

The Mathematics Framework provides a structured approach to teaching and learning math, ensuring coherence across grade levels. Rooted in student-centered learning, it fosters critical thinking and problem-solving through real-world applications. By emphasizing equitable access, the Mathematics Framework aims to support all students, particularly those from historically underserved communities.

The Mathematics Framework sets the stage for students to build a conceptual understanding of math and see how interconnected the core concepts of math are—across a single grade level and across the entirety of their math learning journey.  

Eureka Math2 California was crafted to help California teachers meet this moment, empowering educators with lessons and tools that help students become confident doers of math.

Eureka Math² California presents math as a coherent story, from TK to Algebra I, so students can leverage connections between the big ideas at each level and build conceptual understanding.

Data Science

There's an increasing importance for all students to be able to work with and derive meaning from data. That's why we've created lessons using real data sets that will help students learn to interpret data and extract meaning to address real-world problems.

Multilingual Learner Support

Our research-based approach ensures all students have an opportunity to engage with grade-level content. Through Language Supports, Mathematical Language Routines, and a special focus on Readability, students have the scaffolds they need to meet every lesson's language objectives.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

By incorporating the UDL principles, we provide all students with an opportunity to succeed by proactively removing learning barriers. Lessons provide multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. Options that address learner variability are built into the lesson design.

Eureka Math² California Edition presents mathematics learning as a coherent story, leveraging connections between concepts and big ideas to support deep conceptual understanding. Although each module is centered around its own big idea, lessons give students many opportunities to make connections to the content of other modules and content areas. 

Every lesson in Eureka Math² California Edition contains a language objective and research-based supports to help all students, including multilingual learners, engage with the curriculum’s language rich, discourse-based lessons.

The 2024 California Mathematics Framework calls for greater emphasis on data science. Lessons help students build a conceptual understanding of data and statistics. Educators who use Eureka Math² California Edition also have access to supplemental data science materials that help students make sense of data in real-world contexts and use data to make decisions.

The core curriculum and supplemental materials are created with California’s Environmental Principles and Concepts in mind. Core lessons and other instructional resources embed content that brings this part of the Framework to life.
