The Great Minds Story
A Journey into Math with John Urschel
Most students would admit that learning math can be a challenge, but the rewards are great. Listen to John Urschel, a mathematician and former NFL offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens, discuss his journey into math. John attended Penn State University, where he played football and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics. He also received a doctorate in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2019, he published his New York Times-bestselling memoir, Mind and Matter: A Life in Math and Football. Urschel is a member of the board of trustees at MoMath, the National Museum of Mathematics, and serves as the organization’s ambassador, extolling the virtues of mathematics to children of all backgrounds, particularly African Americans.
