Reflect and Celebrate
Ongoing
At a Glance The Socratic Seminar closes every module with student-led synthesis. It’s the capstone of everything students have wondered, investigated, and learned. Mark it as a celebration.
The Socratic Seminar is PhD Science’s structured end-of-module discussion. Students synthesize their learning across all concepts, discuss ideas with peers, and present evidence to support or refute claims. This is the moment when students demonstrate not just what they know but also how they think as scientists.
After the Socratic Seminar, reflect with students on how their Anchor Model changed across the module. What questions on the Driving Question Board did they answer? What new questions emerged? This reflection makes learning growth visible—for students and for you.
At year’s end, look across modules: How has student scientific discourse grown? How has evidence-based writing in the Science Logbook deepened? Which routines became second nature? These observations will strengthen your teaching next year.
