At a Glance Four steps to targeted scaffolding: Look at your data, analyze the module arc, study the lesson, and adapt routines. This approach keeps your scaffolding targeted and your rigor intact.
Wit & Wisdom isn’t a script; it’s a flexible framework that lets you make smart adjustments while staying true to each lesson’s goals. The key is making adjustments that are intentional and data-driven rather than reactive.
1. Look at Your Data
Use formative assessments—Checks for Understanding, Focusing Question Tasks, Socratic Seminar Assessments, New-Read Assessments, and vocabulary assessments—to identify areas of strength and growth.
2. Analyze the Module and Lesson Arcs
Identify the must-have skills and knowledge for the module. Prioritize instruction that supports student success on the Focusing Question Task and End-of-Module Task.
3. Study the Lesson and Content Stages
Use the Lesson Study Protocol to unpack what students are learning and why it matters. Knowing how the Content Stages build toward deep understanding helps you adjust lessons while maintaining rigor.
4. Adapt Instructional Routines
Swap in alternate routines where needed. Pages 114–127 of the Implementation Guide offer a wide range of options.
