Know Your Materials
Before School Starts
At a Glance Review your Teacher Edition, Student Edition, core texts, and Teacher Resource Pack before school starts. Familiarity with these materials sets you up to teach every lesson with confidence.
Wit & Wisdom organizes instruction around four core components. Getting familiar with each one before your first lesson builds confidence and makes daily planning more intuitive.
Teacher Edition (TE)
Your planning backbone. Each module has its own TE, with lesson overviews, learning goals, a module road map, core lessons and Deep Dives, and additional teacher resources. Modules run 30–38 lessons, each following a predictable Launch–Learn–Land structure. Plan to spend most of your instructional time in the Learn section. Before you start a module, find the Module Map at the end of the Module Overview and use it to build your pacing calendar—this single page gives you a bird’s-eye view of the entire module’s arc.
Student Edition (SE)
Your students’ learning companion. Each one contains graphic organizers, lesson handouts, and more. Students complete tasks in print or digitally on the platform. Before your first lesson, decide on a journal format: composition book, binder, or digital. This decision affects how students organize their thinking all year, so it’s worth making intentionally.
Core Texts
The heart of every module. These are the trade books, poems, fine art, and primary sources that students will engage with deeply across an entire module. Think about how you’ll store and distribute them, and plan to read them yourself before teaching—your own familiarity with the texts directly strengthens your ability to facilitate student discussion.
Teacher Resource Pack
Find it on the right side of your horizontal navigation bar on the platform. This is where materials lists, implementation guidance, planning resources, and family resources live. It’s your hub for everything beyond the lesson itself.
