Prepare to Teach
Before School Starts/Before Each Module
At a Glance Two steps before lesson one: preview the Module Overview and study the lesson. Working through the Exit Ticket yourself is the single best preparation step you can take.
You’ve explored the books and the platform. Now it’s time to get ready to teach.
Step 1. Review the Module
Start with the big ideas, the strategies, and how learning connects before you zoom in on individual lessons.
- Start with the Overview, Terminology, Suggested Tools, and Suggested Methods of Instructional Delivery
- Then read through Preparing to Teach a Module
Bonus Tip: Read the Preparing to Teach a Lesson by Extending the Action of Concept Development section for additional insight into how to deepen instruction.
Step 2. Study a Lesson
Familiarize yourself with the lesson’s structure and anticipate where students might struggle or surprise you.
- Read through the lesson and try completing the Exit Ticket yourself (this helps—we promise).
- Consider how the math builds over the lesson and across the topic.
