Support Every Learner

At a Glance Four steps to targeted scaffolding: look at your data, analyze the module, study the lesson and its Learning Goals, and plan for scaffolds. This approach keeps your scaffolding targeted and your rigor intact.
Arts & Letters isn’t a script. It’s a flexible framework that lets you make smart adjustments while staying true to each lesson’s goals. The key is making adjustments that are intentional and data-driven rather than reactive.
1. Look at Your Data
Use formative assessments—daily learning tasks, Listening Comprehension Assessments, Reading Comprehension Assessments, and module tasks—to identify areas of strength and growth.
2. Backward Plan from the End-of-Module Task
Identify the must-have skills and knowledge for the module. Prioritize instruction that supports student success on the module tasks and End-of-Module Task.
3. Study the Lesson Learning Goals and Tasks
Use the Lesson Study Protocol to unpack what students are learning and why it matters. Focusing on the Learning Goals helps you adjust lessons while maintaining rigor and focus on the most essential learning.
4. Plan for Scaffolds
Explore the teacher notes throughout the lesson (Language Support, Differentiation Support, Differentiation Challenge) and the Analyze Student Progress ideas for offering immediate support. If the lesson has a corresponding Prologue lesson, plan for pre-teaching as relevant to students’ demonstrated needs.
