Our science curriculum, PhD Science, is designed to help teachers facilitate student-driven learning to build students' science knowledge across a range of topics and domains.
In partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), the PhD Science Content Leader Program offers teachers in Louisiana an opportunity to develop and share their science knowledge and skills by becoming certified Content Leaders. The Content Leader certification is also a step toward Louisiana's principal certification

Why Become a Science Content Leader?
Science Content Leaders will have an opportunity to
- deepen their understanding of science content and the learning design and pedagogy of the curriculum through direct training and coaching from experienced PhD Science educators,
- learn to effectively plan for module and lesson delivery,
- work with the PhD Science Implementation Success team to develop the skills to facilitate high-quality professional learning experiences for their fellow educators,
- redeliver professional learning with turnkey materials provided by the PhD Science team, and
- take a step toward school leadership positions and Louisiana’s principal certification by earning a Content Leader microcredential through BloomBoard.

PhD Science Content Leaders will:
- attend nine PhD Science Content Leader training sessions, office hours, and coaching sessions;
- complete coursework as assigned between sessions,
- learn to facilitate professional learning that builds PhD Science curriculum knowledge among other educators in your own school;
- receive customized coaching to support the completion of four required BloomBoard assessments; and
- obtain a teaching license microcredential after successful completion of the nine training days and four required BloomBoard assessments.

The LDOE created the Content Leader program as a leadership pathway for teachers while simultaneously recognizing the importance of content expertise among school leaders and teachers. With Content Leaders, districts can build internal capacity for professional learning to promote student achievement and success in Louisiana.
Districts implementing PhD Science understand that curriculum alone does not lead to student achievement—teachers need professional learning opportunities and ongoing implementation support. Content Leaders develop their own expertise and that of other teachers through facilitated professional learning.
By investing in Content Leaders, districts build a strong pool of local educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources to provide year-round professional learning and implementation support to local K–5 teachers.
