Students describe and study changes to the Statue of Liberty’s appearance, the anchor phenomenon, and build an answer to the Essential Question: What caused the Statue of Liberty to change over time? Students begin to develop the enduring understanding that heating or mixing substances may result in the formation of new substances and that such changes can be explained by using a particle model of matter.
